James A. McKamy was authorized by Col. Thomas on September 10, 1862, to raise a company from Tennessee for the war. On September 29, 1862, McKamy mustered in his company of Blount County volunteers. McKamy was promoted to Major on August 15, 1863, and 1st Lt. James N. Singleton was elected Captain.
